About

Asia Top Music Editorial Board is a collective of seasoned music journalists, critics, and industry insiders dedicated to elevating Asian rock and original independent music. Founded in Hong Kong in 2026, our board exists to provide the most rigorous, insightful, and culturally informed coverage of the Asian rock scene — from underground heavy acts to arena-filling anthems.

With over 78 combined years of experience in music journalism, our team has contributed to leading international publications, programmed stages at major festivals, and built deep relationships across the continent’s most dynamic music communities. We do not simply report on Asian rock — we live it.

Core Editorial Board

Kai Nakamura – Editor-in-Chief A veteran music critic with 18 years covering Asian independent scenes. Kai has attended every edition of Clockenflap since 2012, Fuji Rock Festival for the past nine years, and major international events including SXSW, Primavera Sound, and Taiwan’s EMERGE Festival. His long-form features and festival dispatches have been cited by Billboard Asia and The Japan Times. Kai specialises in contextualising how Asian rock bands are reshaping global heavy music narratives.

Lina Cheung – Senior Critic & Festival Correspondent With a background in ethnomusicology and over 12 years as a music journalist, Lina has reported from the front lines of Asia’s most influential festivals, including Fuji Rock, Clockenflap, and Seoul’s Zandari Festival. She is known for her meticulous album reviews and in-depth artist interviews that explore the cultural transmission and creative innovation behind each release. Lina holds a Master’s degree in Musicology from the University of Hong Kong and previously served as contributing editor for regional music platforms.

Marcus Leung – Charts & Curation Editor Marcus brings 15 years of experience in music curation and data-driven analysis. A regular attendee of Clockenflap, Fuji Rock, and Southeast Asia’s underground showcases, he curates our monthly “Asia Top Rock Charts” based on artistic excellence, cultural significance, and long-term influence rather than streaming metrics alone. His previous work includes programming for independent promoters and contributing chart commentary to international music outlets.

Elena Park – Features & Emerging Talent Editor Elena has spent the last decade immersed in Hong Kong’s Canto-rock revival and Taiwan’s indie underground. She has covered major festivals across Asia and maintains close working relationships with rising and established acts. Her writing focuses on the human stories, creative processes, and cultural heritage that define today’s Asian rock movement.
